About P.E.M.Co.
The History Behind P.E.M.Co. Educational and Contract Furniture

P.E.M.Co. actually stands for Parker, Eggert, McGaughey Company. The corporate name is P & E Educational Furniture and Equipment Inc. and it was established in June of 2000. Walt Parker and Gary Eggert formed this corporation and brought Brian McGaughey on shortly there after as the third owner. Since M.E.P.CO and E.M.P.CO did not sound very attractive, P.E.M.Co. was the name of choice to do business as.
Gary Eggert started his career 20 years ago installing window treatments and stage curtains as well as classroom furniture for a well known school equipment dealer. Walt Parker joined the same company 5 years later and both became well known in the Western Pennsylvania area as leading sales associates for school and office furniture.
Brian McGaughey met these two characters while he was a manufactures rep for a national locker and shelving company. Quickly the three became very successful selling small niche locker and shelving jobs to schools and colleges. With the contacts that Walt & Gary had and the expertise that Brian had, they were an unbeatable combination.
When Walt & Gary were lured away to a new company that was being started in Pittsburgh, they convinced Brian to also leave his job and come work with them. After working together as sales executives for 3 ½ years, the three decided it was time to start their own company and control their own destiny. With their last commission paychecks in hand and a lot of determination, P.E.M.Co. was founded.
After a year of getting their business established, the company knew that it needed to grow and to do that, they would need to hire an experienced, battled tested, veteran of the industry. After months of talking to the wrong people, the right person was looking for a change in his life. Bill Sinning, a nemesis to Walt & Gary for years on competitive school projects, joined team P.E.M.Co. and has been a major factor in developing our contract furniture lines. Bill’s experience in commercial furniture has helped P.E.M.Co. offer many higher end product lines to the K-12 school market
As P.E.M.Co. grew, we realized that a larger warehouse and a working office / showroom was needed to display & promote our product lines. In March of 2004, team P.E.M.Co. bought their first building and moved into a 10,000 square foot facility that accommodated all of the above.
In the fall of 2005, it was once again time to try and find the right person (s) to expand our company. As luck would have it, our major competitor in Western PA was closing their business and going into another endeavor. They’re top sales executive and their lead designer had both been with the company 11 years or so. Joy Shaughnessy and designer, Angela Gray looked at all of the companies that were out there and decided to join our team on January 1, 2006. They both bring years of experience to our company as experts at the PA State Contract Purchasing Programs. Together, Joy and Angela have designed many of Western PA’s finest school furniture programs.
The stars were all aligned once again in July of 2006 when Deb Davis joined team P.E.M.Co. after 20 years with the Diocesan Purchasing Commission. When they closed their doors for good, Deb searched for a company that fit her experience and would allow her to continue calling on the same client base that she was comfortable with. We are truly blessed to have Deb Davis join our staff!
The Latest T.E.A.M. PEMCO free agent signing happened in March of 2007. We were fortunate enough to land one of Pittsburgh’s premier Contract & Higher Education furniture sales associates. Sanna Beels joined our company and is rapidly showing us why she has been a dominant factor the past 25 years when it comes to furniture designs and sales in Western PA.
The future of P.E.M.Co. is looking brighter & brighter everyday. We will continue to develop and grow our business to better serve you, the customer, in the future. Stay tuned for the next great chapter with Team P.E.M.Co.
We thank those of you who have been loyal customers in the past and also thank those of you who are allowing us to compete for your business for the very first time. We won’t let you down!
